Text: . "THE TRACTION ENGINE ACCIDENT A DANGEROUS EMPLOYMENT
INQUEST ON YOUTH
On Monday forenoon, at the Beckett Hospital, Mr. P.P. Miatland held an inquiry into the circumstances attending the death of Thomas William Wogan, the youth who died on Friday midnight at the above institution, from injuries sustained by being run over by the wheel of a waggon which was attached to a traction engine belonging to the Barnsley British Co-operative Society Limited. Mr Kaye attended, representing the Society. Eliza Wogan, widow, of 10 Court 2, Wood Street, said that deceased was her son, and was 17 years of age last March. He was a healthy lad, and when he left her on Thursday morning he was quite cheerful, and bade her "good morning". He had been in the employ of the Co-operative Society for about 18 months. When witness saw him at the hospital he explained to her that HIS BOOT WAS CAUGHT BY SOMETHING and he was dragged underneath owing to the engine slipping. He also told her that it was a complete accident..............................................after Mr. Maitland had summed up the jury agreed unanimously that deceased met with his death accidentally."
